University Students Working On Anti-Cancer Beer

A team of Rice University students are trying to create a beer that contains the same chemical in red wine thought to reduce cancer and heart disease in lab animals.

The students' brew is called "Bio-beer" and it uses a yeast genetically engineered to produce resveratrol, a natural compound found in red wine.

French Wine Producers Whine About Difficult Business Environment

French winemakers are complaining about the increasingly difficult business environment they face caused by the rise of anti-alcoholism sentiment in the country. They fear the French wine would one day go the way of the cigarette, which was banned in public places.

At the heart of their anxiety is a government proposal last week to raise the legal age for purchasing alcohol to 18 from 16. Aside from hiking the legal age, the proposal will also prohibit the sale of alcohol at highway gas stations and will not allow all-you-can-drink open bar evenings at French high schools.

Rice University Students Aim For Creating A Beer Healthier Than Red Wine

Six students from Rice University in Houston are creating a beer than contains more of the red wine's healthy ingredients that help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.

The research team's leader, junior Taylor Stevenson, said they are using genetic engineering to create a beer with a higher resveratrol content.

Prince Charles' Latest Eco-Friendly Car Runs On Surplus Wine

Aside from several Jaguars, an Audi and a Range Rover that run on used cooking oil-based biodiesel, an Aston Martin fueled by bioethanol from wine is the latest environmentally friendly car of Britain's Prince Charles.

The luxury car given by Queen Elizabeth as a birthday present when the prince turned 21 has been converted to run on pure bioethanol supplied by Green Fuels Limited. The biofuel is made from excess local vintage produced by English wine makers. The wine comes from a vineyard close to Prince Charles' Highgrove Estate, a spokesman of Green Fuels told CNN.com.
