Fashion Designer Valentino Ordered To Pay Almost $40 Million For Tax Evasion

Fashion industry heavyweight Valentino and his business partner Giancarlo Giammetti have been ordered to pay $39 million for evading tax in Italy.

The 76-year-old Italian designer and Giammetti allegedly avoided declaring their income by moving Valentino's residence outside of the country. He relocated to London over 10 years ago but still maintained business in Italy.

French Justice Minister Rachida Dati is being criticized for returning to work just five days after giving birth to daughter Zohra. After Dati left a Paris clinic where she delivered her baby by Caesarean section on Jan. 2, she attended a cabinet meeting Wednesday.

Dati is quite an unconventional woman. She is a single mother at 43 and refused to divulge the identity of the infant's father.

French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy admitted in a one-hour interview for a French TV program her wedding to President Nicolas Sarkozy was decided in just two days.

Because of the short notice to find an appropriate wedding outfit, Bruni bought a cream Hermes dress off the rack in a high-end Paris shop. The small, private nuptials held in February, had few guests including French couturiers Christian Lacroix and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Four robbers dressed as women stole over $100 million worth of jewelry from one of Paris' most prestigious jewelry stores. Hit by the robbery was the Harry Winston store, located near the Champs-Elysee.

It was the second robbery to hit the same shop in almost 14 months. At that time the thieves got only $13 million (10 million euro) worth of valuables.

Michael Jackson is said to be living on a diet of gravy, painkillers and biscuits. The cash-strapped star - who settled a 4.7 million pounds [$7 million] court case against Sheikh Abdulla Al-Khalifa at the weekend - is apparently surviving on the bizarre diet after his spending habits spiraled out of control.

Jackson's financial woes are said to be a result of him blowing $1.5 billion on luxuries such as a Ferrari car and the entire stock from antiques shops and comic book stores he has visited.
