A matchmaking cruise that aims to help male millionaires and beautiful women find each other will be held in China this month, the state-owned China Daily said. To qualify, the male participants must have assets worth at least two million yuan ($250,000) and the women must be "good-looking and desirable." "Rich men are normally very busy," says organizer Xu Tianli, "and most of the women they meet are there for work or business, which these men consider to be unsuitable for relationships."
Tom Cruise Wins "Ernie Award" For Sexism
A group of Australia's most powerful women have honored Tom Cruise with an "Ernie Award." The award is handed out to companies and public figures who make the most derogatory public statements about women, and the 2006 Celebrity Ernie was bestowed upon Cruise for a comment he made about his girlfriend, Katie Holmes, when she was pregnant. Cruise, who was dropped by Paramount Pictures for his recent public behavior, said during the pregnancy, "I've got Katie tucked away so no one will get to us until my child is born."
Captain Pleads Guilty To Operating Cruise Ship Drunk
A cruise ship captain pleaded guilty Monday to operating a Celebrity Cruise Line vessel while under the influence of alcohol. The ship was carrying 1,884 passengers. Periklis Petridis, a Greek citizen in command of the Mercury cruise liner was arrested by the U.S. Coast Guard on May 19, before the ship was scheduled to depart from a Seattle pier for Alaska.
Lucille Ball Fans To Celebrate Her 95th Birthday
Fans of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz from all over the world are expected to congregate this weekend to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the red-headed comic's birth. Lucy's birthday blowout will be held in Jamestown, NY, where Lucille Ball was born, buried and has a museum devoted to her and Desi. The organizers, led by Ric Wyman, executive director of the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center in Jamestown, have scheduled three days of events, including special guests such as "Lucy" film editor Dann Cahn and "Lucy" co-writer Bob Schiller, a large-scale Lucy-Desi memorabilia collectors' show, seminars, picnics, a boat cruise, town tour of Lucy sights, book signings by authors of Lucy-Desi books and screenings of various Desilu TV episodes, including one from Lucy's last TV series that never aired.
Man Wins Bet By Water-Skiing Behind Cruise Liner
A bet by a German man has led him to water-ski behind a German cruise liner, after having argued that it would be theoretically possible to do so. With the stunt being recorded by a German television crew, reporter Dirk Gion, 40, took up the challenge "to prove it could be done", according to Ananova.com.
