A Phoenix elementary school got an unexpected visitor Wednesday morning when a small plane with engine trouble was forced to make an emergency landing in its yard.

No one was injured in the incident and no property of the Villa de Paz Elementary School was damaged.

A pilot of a two-engine plane died shortly after takeoff from Marco Island, Florida Sunday but a single-engine plane pilot was fortunately aboard and safely landed the plane guided by air traffic controllers.

Doug White, 56, landed the 10-seater Super King Air at the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers saving the lives of his wife and two teenage daughters, who were also aboard the turboprop plane for a trip to Louisiana.

A Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix, Arizona to Detroit, Michigan made an emergency landing at the Denver International Airport Saturday to remove a woman who became unruly and attacked passengers and crew.

Fellow passengers told Detroit television station Local 4 that the woman was waiting in line to use the rest room when a man accidentally bumped into her. She began hitting the man and yelling at him. A few passengers got out of their seats to aid the man, but the woman then turned her anger toward a flight attendant and began attacking her.

The international airport in Anchorage, Alaska remained closed Sunday morning after ash from the erupting Mt. Redoubt fell on the city.

Mt. Redoubt, 100 miles west of the city of 279,000, left a layer of ash and the smell of sulfur before changing winds pushed the ash cloud north and out of town.

A powerful spring blizzard moved into South Dakota on Monday forcing local authorities to close schools, offices, a highway and an airport in Rapid City and Northern Hills.

The Rapid City Regional Airport closed Monday afternoon as the weather condition made traffic difficult, officials said. A sleek portion of Interstate 90 from Chamberlain to Wyoming was closed.
