Britain's King Edward VIII was reportedly consulting a mystic known as "The Yorkshire Yogi" when he decided to abdicate. New archive evidence shows Edward - who gave up the throne in December 1936 after reigning for just 11 months in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson - was being treated by Dr. Alexander Cannon, a trained medic who dabbled in alternative treatments, mystic techniques and black magic, prompting the Archbishop of Canterbury to intervene.
Closing Of Gender Gap Felt Most In Norway
Norway topped the list of 130 nations in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2008. Oslo toppled Sweden, which was number one in 2007 but slipped to third place this year. Norway got a score of 0.824 out of a perfect score of 1, which indicates the gender gap has been closed. On second spot is Finland which third place last year. Iceland kept its fourth ranking.
U.K. Man Buys Computer With Millions Of Credit Card Data For $142 On eBay
A Briton has informed authorities that a computer he bought through eBay for $142 contained data on several million credit card customers. The incident has sparked an investigation in the U.S. and the U.K. The buyer, 56-year-old IT manager Andrew Chapman of Oxford, England, contacted authorities when he found on the computer's hard drive the account numbers, passwords, cell phone numbers and signatures of credit card customers of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), its subsidiary NatWest and American Express.
Zimbabwe's 11.2 Million June Inflation Rate Breaks World Records
Once again, Zimbabwe broke world records Tuesday, not in the sporting arena but in having the world's highest inflation rate at 11.2 million percent in June. Zimbabwe Finance Minister Samuel Mumbengegwi attributed the country's hyperinflation rate to soaring food prices and western sanctions on their ruling elite.
Thailand Halts Sales Of Grand Theft Auto Video Game After Taxi Driver Murdered
Thailand has pulled copies of Grand Theft Auto IV after a teenager allegedly killed a tax driver trying to emulate the violent video game, police said. New Era Interactive Media, the video game's regional publiisher, yanked the software from shelves after an 18-year old teenager car-jacked a taxi, allegedly killing the driver when he resisted.
