As Chicago brings in some tourism money because U.S. President Barack Obama lived there as an adult, Hawaii is also capitalizing on Obama's links with the island to boost its tourism industry. The 44th U.S. president was not the only Obama who once lived in Hawaii as a student, but also his father Barack Obama Sr., who enrolled at the University of Hawaii in 1959. There he met Stanley Ann Dunham, whom he fell in love with and got married. Dunham gave birth to her first born, Barack Obama, on Aug. 4, 1961.
'Halo 3' Addict Guilty Of Killing Mom, Shooting Dad
A judge in Ohio has convicted a 17-year-old boy for killing his mother and trying to kill his father in revenge for taking away his Halo 3 video game in October 2007. Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge issued the verdict on Daniel Petric, who shot dead Susan Petric, 43, and also shot but did not kill his father, Mark, 46. The conviction carries a possible sentence of life imprisonment without parole.
Hard Times Reverse Empty Nest Syndrome For Growing Number Of U.S. Families
Recession appears to be the solution to the empty nest syndrome experienced by elderly Americans with a growing number of adult children returning home to cut cost. The journey back home is attributed to a host of factors including joblessness, foreclosed homes and high cost of living. The 2007 U.S. census said 55 percent of males and 48 percent of females ages 18 to 24 still live with their parents.
Sing-Along Machine Tops U.K. Poll Of Most Irritating Inventions
A survey of 2,500 adult Britons identified the karaoke as the most irritating invention. About 22 percent of survey participants picked the sing-along machine as their top choice. It was followed by 24-hour sports channels with 17 percent, computer game consoles 12 percent, cellular phones 11 percent and alarm clocks 7 percent.
