Nearly 2,000 current and former Los Alamos National Laboratory employees and visitors may have been exposed to beryllium in the lab and may be at risk of disease.

Beryllium is an extremely light, hard, non-radioactive silver-gray metal that is purified to use in nuclear weapons and reactors, aerospace work, electronics, golf clubs and bicycle frames. However, in a particulate or finely powdered form it is hazardous and can cause chronic beryllium disease that impairs lung function.

A jury in Taos, New Mexico on Monday convicted the leader of an apocalyptic religious sect of criminal sexual contact with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of two minors in 2006.

The jury, however, did not convict Wayne Bent, 67, from the more serious charge of sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl.

The United States Coast Guard recovered a boat stolen from a Florida Keys dock in October off the Yucatan Peninsula with 15 Cuban migrants on board and two men suspected of stealing the vessel.

The two suspects and the 2008 Hydrosport police say the men stole from a Plantation Key home, were returned to Florida on Friday, Nov. 7, according to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
