The mayor of Wadowice, Poland has told believers who were flocking his town to drink at a "miracle fountain" from a statue of Pope John Paul II, that the water is coming from just an ordinary water pipe.

The daily newspaper Dziennik says local residents in Pope John Paul II's hometown of Wadowice, have been flocking to the statue, believing a miracle had happened when water began sprouting from the base of the statue.

A former Polish politician was recently caught by police while drunk driving, but escaped punishment by telling them that he had only used a vodka-based mouthwash, and did not swallow it.

Grzegorz Gruszka was arrested after being pulled over by police in a routine check and failing a breath test.

Church officials will work with historians to review secret police files which are now declassified, to find evidence of collaboration.
