12-Year-Old Punished For Being HIV-Positive
A 12-year-old boy, who tested HIV positive last week, was tied to his bed at a hospital in the northern Indian city of Meerut.The HIV positive boy had been in a local children's jail for the last three months after committing a robbery. On asking why the boy was punished for being HIV positive, hospital management answered they were not equipped to handle AIDS patients.

As part of a project to raise HIV/AIDS awareness in India, prostitutes who are routinely checked at a sexual health clinic are being awarded with discount shopping cards. The United Nation's AIDS-prevention agency recently said India has the highest number of people infected with HIV worldwide, with approximately 5.7 million people living with the virus.
Man Gets Over Two Years In Prison For Biting, Kicking Agents
A San Jose man was sentenced to 30 months in prison for biting one U.S. Secret Service agent and kicking another in the forehead. He was sentenced Tuesday after in April he pleaded guilty to two counts of federal assault said Luke Macaulay, a spokesman for federal prosecutors. According to court documents, Jay David Hemm, 43, tried using a fake check in August at Nordstrom Rack in San Jose while two secret service agents were in the store picking up a surveillance tape for another case.
Woman Jailed For Deliberately Infecting Lover With HIV
London, England (AHN)-Sarah Jane Porter, of Seaton Close, Kennington, south-east London was sentenced to 32 months in prison after deliberately infecting a man with HIV. One of Porter's victims, a 36-year-old man, says she did not reveal she had HIV and encouraged him into having unprotected sex. He then contacted detectives in May 2005 who helped track down some of Porter's other lovers.
Canadian Police Probe Theft Of HIV-Tainted Blood
Canadian police and health officials searched on Tuesday for a thief who made off with vials of HIV-contaminated blood plasma from a Vancouver hospital. The thief pried open a locked freezer at a laboratory at St. Paul's Hospital during the weekend and removed the 19 vials that were marked with the lettering "HIV VL" and labeled with the patients' names, Reuters reported.
