Bono, Melinda and Bill Gates Hailed as Time Magazine's Persons of the Year

Time Magazine has named its Persons of the Year and the three people on this year's cover are honored for being good Samaritans. The magazine says the trio is changing the way people feel about charity. Bill Gates, and his wife, Melinda, were named Time magazine's "Persons of the Year" along with Irish rocker Bono for making a difference in different ways.

Managing Editor James Kelly said the three had been chosen as the people most effective at finding ways to eradicate such calamities as malaria in Africa, HIV and AIDS and the grinding poverty that kills 8 million people a year. Time also named former Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton as "Partners of the Year" for their humanitarian efforts after the Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, and the unlikely friendship that developed from that work.

Prison Program Provides Inmates with Tattoo Training

Prison inmates in Canada are being professionally trained in tattoo-shop maintenance, tattoo application and disease prevention as part of a pilot project operated by Correctional Service Canada.

The program is aimed at cutting down use of unclean needles and the spread of disease.

Catholic Priest Pricks Children With Unsterilized Pin

The Catholic Diocese of Austin is investigating a priest who called about 15 children to come forward during an evening Mass so he could prick them with an unsterilized pin.Reverend Arthur Michalka was attempting to demonstrate the pain Jesus suffered during his crucifixion. He says he was trying to teach the children suffering is a part of life.

Helen Osman, communications director for the Austin diocese, says no one reacted badly during the incident at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Wednesday night. The priest pricked both adults and children.
