Two Planes Narrowly Escape Mid-Air Collision Over Caribbean
A Delta Air Lines flight headed from New York to Trinidad narrowly avoided a mid-air, head-on collision with a Russian-registered passenger jet near near Puerto Rico, a U.S. official said Friday. Peter Knudson of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) told AFP news that a Delta Boeing B737-800 and a Transaero Boeing B747-400, registered in Russia, were travelling toward one another on Thursday night at the exact same altitude of 10,058 meters (33,000 feet).
Two Russian Mine Guards Eaten By Pack Of Starving Bears
Two guards were eaten by a pack of hungry Kamchatka bears in Russia's far eastern region last Thursday. Since then, the Associated Press reported that a pack of 30 bears are stalking two mines of a platinum mining company, causing 400 mine workers to refuse to go to work on the small island where Kamchatka brown bears live in the densest abundance of anywhere in the world.
Remains Of Murdered Russian Tsar, Children Confirmed By Investigators
Russian investigators confirmed on Wednesday that 90-year-old bone fragments found in the Ural region belong to last Russian tsar Nicolas II and his murdered children Alexei and Maria. The Russian prosecutor's office said, "The final results of DNA studies, using three genetic testing systems, confirm the hypothesis that the second grave contained the remains of Grand Duchess Maria and Tsarevich Alexei."
Greenwich Flushes Billionaire's 26-Bathroom Supermansion Plan
A controversial plan for a 54,000-square-foot mansion proposed by Russian mogul Valery Kogan was rejected by officials after receiving a flurry of complaints from neighbors saying the house would be too large. The permit was denied Tuesday by the Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission, halting construction of what would have been the largest single-family residence since the city began reviews back in 2001.
