New Mexico Lawmaker Wants Tax On TVs, Video Games To Prevent Obesity
A bill proposing to put a 1-percent excise tax on TV sets, video games and video game equipment sold in New Mexico will be submitted to the state legislature on Monday to fund programs preventing childhood obesity and improving school performance. State legislator Gail Chasey, an educator and sponsor of the bill, expects to raise $4 million from the tax each year.
Canadian Foreign Affairs Puts Guantanamo On Torture Watch List
A training manual issued by Canada's Foreign Affairs Department lists Guantanamo Bay, the U.S. detention camp in Cuba, as a suspected torture and abuse site - alongside Afghanistan, China, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Syria. A Canadian citizen, Omar Khadr, awaits trial in Guantanamo for allegedly killing an American medic in Afghanistan in 2002 and has been in detention for five years since he was 15 years old, CBC News reported.
FBI Takes Another Look At D.B. Cooper Mystery
Thirty-six years after he jumped out of a 727 clutching a bag full of cash, the mystery of D.B. Cooper is getting another look at by the FBI. The FBI has posted some new details in this cold case and are, once again, asking the public for help. On Nov. 24, 1971, a non-descript man calling himself Dan Cooper approached the counter of Northwest Orient Airlines in Portland, Oregon. He used cash to buy a one-way ticket on Flight #305, bound for Seattle, Washington.
Man In Suitcase Detained In El Paso
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers have detained a driver and a man they found hiding in a suitcase. A CBP officer made the discovery at the Paso Del Norte port of entry in El Paso a little after midnight. The huge suitcase was in the back seat of a 1997 Ford Escort that entered the port from Mexico.
