Billboards Advertise Sex Soliciters

According to a Reuters report, people who solicit prostitutes in Oakland, California, could find their faces plastered on billboards under a new shaming program - civil rights groups call the program bad public policy.

The city started putting up billboards on Wednesday showing men arrested for soliciting sex. Other signs invite prostitutes to quit by calling a help line.

A Day in Boring Court = $1,000 for One Juror

A Juror in a Los Angeles courtroom learned a quick lesson about law etiquette when his yawning cost ended up costing him $1,000. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, Craig Veals, found the man in contempt of court during a lengthy April 1st jury selection procedure when he waved his arms, yawned, and told the judge he was "really bored," court officials said on Wednesday. Judge Veals imposed a $1,000 fine but reduced it to $100 when the man protested upon payment a few days later. The man, whose identity was not revealed, was not selected to serve on a jury. Under California law, judges can fine anyone up to $1,500 to enforce order in the courtroom. But lawyers and court officials said they had never heard of such a punishment for yawning.

Found Finger: $100,000 Reward for Owner

Wendy's International Inc. offers $100,000 reward (doubled from its original offer) for information leading to the origin of a human finger found in a bowl of chili from a California Wendy's last month. According to Wendy's President and Chief Operating Officer, Tom Mueller, the company's franchises and employees have done nothing wrong, yet are paying a high price for the finger incident - specifically those in the San Jose, CA. area where the finger appeared in a customers chili order. Workers have been either laid-off or had their hours reduced. "Our brand reputation has been affected nationally," Mueller said. "We are determined to find out what really happened in this incident." There have been no reports of finger or hand accidents in any Wendy's restaurant and all employees passed lie detector tests, Wendy's confirmed in a statement Friday. Anna Ayala, the customer who discovered the finger in her order, dropped her legal claim against the fast-food chain. Official conducted a search of her residence as part of the investigation, but have not released any details.

Pornography Raises Funds for Sick Children

Slain porn star's agent wants to donate proceeds from her final movie to local Canadian children's hospital. Twenty-three-year-old, Natel King, stage name Taylor Sumers, made her final on-screen appearance in a porn film titled "Lesbian Lover." After being stabbed to death last year, King's agent, Stephen Sirard, wants to donate proceeds made from the film's sales to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. Sirard said lawyers for his FCF agency in California had asked the hospital if they could highlight the promised gift on the cover of their video, using wording like "all proceeds from the sale of this video go to Sick Kid's Hospital in Toronto." But hospital spokeswoman Carol Duncan said she has not heard anything about the issue, and she declined to say how the hospital might react to a donation of this kind. "We have to send the issue to the ethics committee and the board of directors for consideration," she said. King, described by Sirard as "a porn star with principles," says King raised money for the hospital before she was murdered. King was stabbed to death in February 2004 after a photography shoot near Philadelphia. The photographer has pleaded guilty to murder and could face 25 years in jail.
