One Cent Turns Off Power
Jacqueline Williams, 41, witnessed a seven hour blackout last Wednesday because she didn't pay her bill to the last cent. The 41-year-old received an electricity bill for $1,662.08. She paid the bill leaving out the last cent which was enough for the company to cut her power supply. Last month, Williams was at the state Department of Human Services to seek assistance. The agency promised to pay most of the bill. At the time the bill was due, she was still in need of $500. She went to the Salvation Army for further assistance. The Social security recipient was offered another $430.67.
Man Still Living In Car Since Hurricane Wilma
Condominium owner, Ken McCrillis has been sleeping in his car since Hurricane Wilma damaged his home at the Sunrise Lakes condo building. McCrillis, age 77, hangs out on the balcony of his condo during the day and uses the pool's shower and sink with running hot and cold water for hygiene.
Ghost Blamed For Courthouse Disturbances
Some of the people who work in Flemington's Hunter County Courthouse say that the ghost of Bruno Hauptmann, the man who in 1935 was convicted there of kidnapping and killing the toddler son of Charles Lindbergh, is flipping on the courthouse's lights every night. They say that the strange happenings began a month ago when renovations started to make the courthouse look as it did in 1935.
Florida Lightening Instantly Strikes Man Dead
Lightening struck and instantly killed a 65-year-old man named Harold Bennett outside his home of 30 years on Wednesday. He stood in the street talking with his neighbor and friend, Judy Thompson, when the incident occurred. According to Thompson, they were just standing outside in the early evening discussing the upcoming hurricane season when she witnessed the electricity from the lightening bolt strike Bennett's head from the rear and pass through his body striking him dead. Thompson even saw yellow sparks in his mouth.
Two Hundred Square Foot Cottage in Ireland Selling for $145,100
A cottage in Ireland, which is about 200 square feet and has no electricity, is selling for about $145,100. The Neptune Cottage also has a toilet with no sewage outlet, according to Reuters. The cottage faces the beach, however, it also backs up to the Dublin-Rosslare railroad tracks. It is divided into two rooms and has an outside chemical toilet.
