Thai Coup to Save Kenyan Wildlife?

The coup d'etat in Thailand will bring an end to plans for exporting wildlife from Kenya to a Thai zoo, in the hometown of ex-Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Kenya's tourism ministry had sponsored the program despite a huge outcry from wildlife activists. A senior official at the ministry told AFP, "The deal is as good as dead."

Group In Thailand Unhappy With "Animal Swap" With China

The Friends of the Asian Elephant, a leading conservationist in Thailand on Monday accused the government of damaging the nation's endangered Asian elephant population by approving a proposal to swap five of them and other animals with white tigers at a Chinese zoo.

Zoraida Salwala, secretary of the group revealed the government has approved a plan to swap some 29 animals, including five elephants and several chimpanzees with two rare white tigers and dozens of other animals.

U.S. Elephant Polo Team Practicing For First Match

The U.S. Elephant Polo Team is gearing up for its first match. The team seems to be the first U.S. team to enter the six-day tournament. To put together the first team, organizers placed an ad on Craigslist.com. In about two weeks, they'll be traveling to Hua Hin, Thailand, for their first match. But for now, they're practicing.

The only problem? The elphants are in Asia. So, for now, players are practicing with a ball and mallet while standing on part of a swing set and an electrical utility box to simulate an elephant's weight.

They're also doing what they can to raise money to cover the $12,000 entry fee into the competition.

De-Stigmatizing Condoms By Making Them Into Art

In an effort to de-stigmatize condoms, one advocacy group is encouraging people to make their own art pins using the contraceptive.

Executive director of The Condom Project, Franck DeRose, says his group started a program that aims to get people more comfortable with condoms, particularly those who live in countries where the items are taboo.

He tells Reuters, "There's a great need to de-stigmatize condoms around the world, especially in Africa."
