A Taiwanese man was charged with public endangerment and the destruction of currency after tossing bank notes worth about $41,000 out a taxicab window.

The unidentified 50-year-old man threw the money out of the car window in a busy part of Taichung city Sunday, which led to disorder in the streets as people rushed to pick up the money, Australia's AdelaideNow reported.

Some passersby turned the money into police, but some kept the loot.

The man is believed to have thrown out more cash on an earlier road trip that began in the country's capital of Taipei, New Jersey's Asbury Park Press reported.

The man also burned about $16,500 and had two more sacks of cash, apparently the proceeds of a property sale, police said.

The taxi driver soon turned the man into police in Changhua county, just south of Taichung.
