A substitute music teacher from an elementary school in Boulder, Colorado has been arrested after she whacked a 10-year-old student on the head with a viola bow. Carla Shinners, who is better known by the nickname "Mrs. Grumpy Lady" is also accused of swearing in front of students. The 63-year-old handed herself to police Tuesday after an arrest warrant was issued on her name. The incident took place on February 12 when Shinners, a teacher for more than 30 years in the district, was interrupted by a call on her own cell phone and she then began swearing.

A Milan teacher was fired from her job after she allegedly used scissors to cut the tongue of a talkative 7-year-old pupil to silence him. As she held a pair of scissors in her hand, the 22-year-old teacher apparently told a boy to "Stick out your tongue so I can cut it. That way you'll stop talking!" She then slashed his tongue so badly that he needed five stitches to close the wound, the Il Corriere della Sera newspaper reported. The child's family, who hail from North Africa have filed suit against the teacher, who has been suspended after last week's incident.

In an attempt to improve the hand-eye coordination of kids, about 42 elementary schools from Sacramento, California participated in a unique two-day sport stacking competition. Attended by over 300 students, the competition is a game in which participants must stack and unstack 12 specially designed plastic cups in the lowest possible time.

Bus passengers in Israel's second largest city are learning to relax while on their way to work. The initiative is taken by Miri Harovi, a 21-year veteran yoga teacher, who guides passengers to perform a set of relaxation exercises while sitting. According to reports, the passengers perform breathing exercises and those which involve movement of upper body parts as Harovi directs them through a microphone.

A teacher at the Adwick Washington school in Adlington, South Yorks, is in hot water after a fuming parent complained that she photocopied the face of their five-year-old child during a class experiment. It was reported that the unidentified teacher were undertaking a "light and dark" experiment with her students and allowed other children to photocopy their hands.
