Four new saints were added during a ceremony by the Pope. Pope Benedict XVI bestowed the honor in his first canonization ceremony in nearly a year. Mother Theodore Guerin established a Catholic college for women in Indiana. The first student was enrolled in 1841. Guerin was born in France in 1798 and turned a log cabin into a chapel with five other nuns. By the time she died in 1856, her order was in charge of schools and orphanages in Indiana.

The principal of a high school in Romania has ordered a breathalyser to conduct alcohol level test to its students and teachers every morning. Ruben Filimon, principal of Mihai Viteazul High School in Oradea, Bihor country, said he was prompted to buy the breathalyser after noting the many students and teachers appear to be "very tired" when coming to school.

Chinese officials canceled a plan to keep single-parent teachers from losing their jobs after it resulted in dozens of divorces. The education board in Dandong, in northeastern Liaoning province, planned to cut teachers in primary and middle schools. This prompted 41 teachers at one school to file for divorce last week.

Some parents made a fuss after their children saw a nude sculpture during a school-approved field trip. Now an award-winning teacher has been terminated. Attorney for Sydney McGee, an art teacher at Fisher Elementary School for 28 years, said not only did the principal urge her to take 89 fifth graders to the Dallas museum she also collected parent permission slips for the students.

Claiming it was an honest mistake, a school teacher has apologized after accidentally using a kinky alphabet in a handout letter to parents. According to school officials, the beleaguered teacher had no idea the alphabet was offensive when she downloaded the font which depicts male and female stick figures contorting into sexual positions resembling letters of the alphabet from the internet.
