A technical glitch in Visa Inc.'s debit processing service has caused inaccurate transactions in some prepaid accounts, including the charging of $23 quadrillion to a cardholder in New Hampshire.
CRC Public Relations, Visa Inc.'s public relations firm, said Wednesday the prepaid transaction errors were caused by a temporary programming error in the service, including the $23,148,855,308,184,500 that appeared on Josh Muszynski's Visa debit card account when he bought a pack of cigarette at a gas station.
"The technical glitch, which impacted fewer than 13,000 Visa prepaid transactions, has been corrected and erroneous postings have been removed," said CRC's Steve Burke in an e-mail to AHN.
Burke said the incident had no financial impact on Visa prepaid cardholders. He also extended Visa Inc.'s apology to cardholders who got transaction errors.
"Visa regrets any inconvenience to our customers and has taken immediate steps to ensure this error doesn't occur again," Burke said.
