A 19-year-old boy from Anoka, Mississippi got the ride of his life when a huge slab of ice broke off as he stood along the shoreline of the Mississippi river.
Amos Benjamin Cohen was spotted by Sue Hillberg, who was sitting at the kitchen table at her mother's Mississippi River-side house in Anoka.
According to the witnesses, the teenager stood on the six foot by 15 foot ice chunk in a shell-shocked state it swam in the water, floating toward the shore then drifting back to the middle of the river.
AP reports that the boy was soon rescued by a team of firefighters from the Anoka-Champlin Fire Department. One of the firefighters, adorned in his survival suits, approached the boy and managed to hop up onto the ice with him. The other two pulled them to safety.
Witnesses say Cohen was shaking uncontrollably after he was brought to shore and was taken to a local hospital for observation. The boy was however released shortly.
