A man is arrested by authorities who claim he was interferring, after saving a swimmer caught in swirling river currents.

Dave Newman disobeyed repeated orders to leave the water. After rescuing the swimmer, he was charged with interferring with public duties. After Abed Duamni, 35 of Houston, Texas thanked Newman for saving his life in front of the police, he was taken into custody and later released on $2,000 bail.

Duamni says he had just finished eating at a nearby restaurant Sunday when he decided to go for a swim in a nearby river and became trapped in the currents. Newman says he could hear law enforcement personnel telling him to come back as he approched a drowning Duamni.

Police claim Newman smirked and seemed annoyed by the requests, standing in the water for about 15 seconds before swimming downstream.

When Newman came across the river, an officer extended his hand to help him out of the water; Newman grabbed the officer's hand and was handcuffed.
