A "final four" championship ends Sunday with a win for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County after a weekend of intense competition on the chess board. UMBC defeated the University of Texas at Dallas 9-8 at the Final Four of intercollegiate chess. The title has ping ponged between the two schools since the competition started six years ago.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is sending undercover agents into bars to bust patrons who are drunk. A spokeswoman for the commission, Carolyn Beck, tells Reuters agents recently arrested 30 people in 36 Dallas area bars for public drunkenness.

A court awards $5. 6 million to the family of a man who had a screwdriver shaft implanted in his spine by an orthopedic surgeon. The jury found Dr. Robert Ricketson, 48, negligent after he attached the stainless steel screwdriver to Arturo Iturralde's spine in 2001.

Texas officials announce the death of the reigning Miss Deaf Texas, who died after being struck by a train. Tara Rose McAvoy, 18, was reportedly walking near railroad tracks and didn't hear the train and was struck by a Union Pacific train.

The reigning Miss Deaf Texas is killed after being struck by a train, Monday. According to authorities, 18-year-old Tara Rose McAvoy was walking near railroad tracks when she was struck by a Union Pacific train. A witness tells Austin television station KTBC the train sounded its horn right up until the accident occurred.
