A Michigan waitress is being praised as a hero by authorities and the family of a toddler she saved from choking to death.
Stacy Gordon, 31, a waitress at the Green Oak Township, Michigan TGI Fridays, noticed Ava Marenda with her head and eyes rolled back, not breathing and she had a mouthful of raisins and other snacks. Gordon, who is training to be a medical assistant, sprung into action.
She quickly took the little girl out of her high chair, swept her mouth and gave her the Heimlich maneuver until she started crying, Ava's father Drew Marenda told ClickonDetroit.com.
Doctors at a nearby hospital said Gordon's quick thinking saved Ava's life.
Gordon is being flown down to Texas and will be presented an award for her good deed. She is also being recognized by the local Red Cross chapter for bravery, according to ClickOnDetroit.com.
Although Ava was choking on the snacks, she was also having a febrile seizure, which is described as convulsions triggered by a fever in small children, according to the Livingston Daily.
Ava has since completed her prescribed medications and is back to her normal self, Drew told the Livingston Daily.
