After seeing their king leaving a hospital last month in a pink shirt and blazer, Thais are rushing in to stores to get their own pink apparel in what appears to be the latest fashion craze in Thailand.

According to Phufa fashion chain, they have sold more than 40,000 pink shirts last month alone.

That was after King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Thailand's longest reigning monarch was spotted in a pink suit after spending three weeks in a hospital undergoing for treatment for his heart problem and other ailments.

"Our factory is making these shirts every day, every minute day and night," a spokeswoman for the company averred. "We had no idea they would be this popular."

Reports said that the King decided to wear the color pink upon recommendation of local astrologers who said it is good for his health.

Being closely loved and followed by the Thais, King Bhumibol's choice of wardrobe is sure to trigger a fashion craze in this Southeast Asian country.

When King Bhumibol celebrated his 60th anniversary as monarch in 2006, many Thais began wearing bright yellow shirts every Monday, as it was on that particular the day of the week on which the King was born.

Now that he had triggered a pink fashion craze, no one wants to be left out of the latest fad.

In fact, a civil servant, Rose Tarin, had even resorted to camping outside a clothing store from 4 in the morning just to make sure she could avail of the latest arrivals of the pink shirts.

"Wearing pink brings the king luck. I don't want him to be sick," Tarin said.
