When two shoplifters dashed out of an auto parts store the store manager ran after them and jumped onto the getaway car in an effort to stop the thieves. It actually wasn't intentional.

The Milwaukee Checker Auto Parts store manager, Darrin Malsack, only intended to get the thieves' license plate number. The men had stolen a portable DVD system.

But while Malsack, 30, was writing down the license plate the thieves backed up toward him and he jumped onto the station wagon, holding on to the roof rack with one hand while he dialed 911 on his cell phone.

Malsack told the AP that the car was moving at about 50 miles an hour and swerving from side to side to shake him off.

"They were going too fast for me to jump off safely," he told the AP. "So I just stayed on top and started pounding on the vehicle."

When the vehicle halted briefly at a stop sign he took the opportunity to jump off and let the thieves speed away. Police are still looking for the thieves and say the license plate didn't match the car.
