While some students complain that they will never need calculus, or European history, Bill Crozier, who's running for the school board in Oklahoma says a thick textbook may actually save your life.
Crozier says thick textbooks may be used to help pad a classroom desk in an effort to provide better protection to students in the event of a school shooting.
The Union City Republican says if he's elected over incumbent Democrat Sandy Garrett, one thing he'll do in office is install thick used textbooks under every desk.
Think it's a joke? Crozier has made a videotape demonstrating the bullet-stopping power of education. In the tape, Crozer is seen firing an AK-47 assault rifle and a 9mm handgun at textbooks.
While the Russian rifle easily tears through two books, the books actually stopped the 9mm round.
According to WKMG, "We are doing this as an experiment because at Fort Gibson, many young people were shot in the back," Crozier said in the videotape, referencing a December 1999 middle school shooting in eastern Oklahoma, in which a student wounded four students with a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun.
"This would be to protect the children in an immediate situation. This is something that any student, any classroom in the country could do immediately."
