A Briton, a Canadian and a New Zealander have made history by becoming the first three people to skydive above Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain.

A plane taking off from Shyangboche airport brought Neil Jone, Holly Budge and Wendy Smith to 29,500 feet, 2,500 feet above the 27,000-foot Everest. From there, they jumped in their thermal suit, oxygen tank and extra-thick parachutes landing back at the airport 12,350 feet below.

The feat was part of an event called Everest Skydive 2008 organized by British adventure travel company High and Wild. Twenty-nine other skydivers are part of the event, the first of its kind in Nepal, and will also skydive above the mountain.
