Officials expect more than three million people to attend the nation's largest fireworks show in New York City tonight.
A spokesman for Macy's, the key sponsor of the event, says 40,000 pyrotechnic shells will explode over the East River with Mariah Carey scheduled to perform.
The event is organized by Al Roker and NBC will telecast the event. It is expected the American Pyrotechnic Association will give the show a top rating based on range and creativity.
Another a concert will take place on the National Mall in Washington with the Beach Boys, Gloria Estefan, and the O'Jays setting the stage on fire.
