Three teenage muggers from Hamburg, Germany are now in hospital after committing the mistake of trying to steal the mobile phone of a junior kick-boxing and karate champion.

In his report to police, Pauli Borchardt, 17, said he was on his way home from a friend's house in Hamburg, when the three teenagers, all aged 17, blocked his path and demanded for his mobile phone.

He said he was using his phone when the thugs approached him. He refused to hand over his cell phone, which irritated the trio and tried to take the phone by force.

He said he used his amateur kick-boxing and karate skills in defending himself and sending the three on the floor. One of the thugs was seriously wounded and remains in the hospital while the other two were immediately released after sustaining cuts and bruises.

The police are now preparing charges of attempted robbery against the three teenagers.
