Tom Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana did not cash in his $5 scratch-off lottery ticket right away. He actually waited several months. But when he did try to claim his prize he was told it was too late. According to CNN reports, Smith filed an appeal with the Indiana State Lottery Commission in 1996 saying he was not aware of a time limit. When his claim was rejected he sued the agency for damages.

A charitable foundation executive is sentenced to two to six years in prison for embezzling $237,162 in order to pay a dominatrix to beat him. Reuters reports that Abraham Alexander, 45, confessed to stealing the money and using most of it to pay an Ohio dominatrix named Lady Sage.

On Monday, the students who earned the top grades at O'Brien Middle School in Reno, Nevada, were rewarded with a class trip to Six Flags Marine World attraction in California just to find that the park was closed. The principal at the middle school stated that the tickets showed Monday's date printed on them, but when the four busloads of children arrived at the park after their four-hour trip, they were greatly disappointed and had to turn around and go back.

A hospital in Virginia is making up for slow service by giving patients in the emergency room who wait over 30 minutes for a doctor free movie tickets. Pam Hash, administrative director of emergency services at the newly opened St. Francis Medical Center says, "Shortening emergency room waiting times is part of a hospital-wide initiative aimed at improving patient care.
