Tiremaker Bridgestone Corp is branching out to make electronic paper (e-paper) for electronic book readers with plans to announce full details soon.
The company reportedly says that its electronic paper can replace regular paper.
It will be environmentally friendly and energy efficient because it doesn't need electricity except when a new page is being written.
Bridgestone is using proprietary material called "electron powder and granular material."
The newest version of its e-paper refreshes a page in 0.8 seconds. It had originally developed the e-paper for inventory tags but, it is has now re-developed it to be suitable in electronic book readers and will be ready to ship product soon.
