An Applebee's restaurant accidentally served a 2-year-old boy a margarita in a children's sippy cup. It was the second such incident at an Applebee's franchise in as many years.
Kim Mayorga noticed her son making faces and pushing his cup, of what was supposed to be apple juice, away. When she opened the cup, she was hit with the smell of tequila and Triple Sec.
"I wasn't going to make a big deal about it," the mother told the Contra Costa Times on Thursday, according to AP reports, "but then he got sick."
The boy, who started vomiting, was taken to the hospital. Applebee's has agreed to pay any medical bills and has been very apologetic, according to Mayorga.
The mix-up probably occurred because premixed margaritas and apple juice are kept in similar containers on ice behind the bar, said Randy Tei, vice president for Apple Bay East Inc., which owns the franchise restaurant and nine other Applebee's in the San Francisco Bay area.
