Pogosticks Bounce Back As Obesity Cure

Could a mid-twentieth century plaything be the cure for a modern epidemic of obesity among the young? Researchers are testing pogosticks as the newest exercise tool. Physical therapy researchers at Dalhousie University are using an updated version of the pogostick with middle school-age students. Already popular in the U. S. researcher Nichelle Hubley is testing a pogo stick workout among 11 10 to 13-year-olds. The kids take part in the six-week study assisted by Flybar, a Calif. -based pogo stick maker.

Texas Worker Cuts Off Own Arm Caught In Machinery

A worker at a concrete factory in Manor, Texas on Wednesday cut off his own arm that got caught in a machinery to free himself and survived. The 52-year-old man, whose name was withheld, almost died on the scene but responding paramedics rushed him to the Brackenridge Hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.

New Zealand Allows Citizens To Help Draft Law Online

A new online tool launched by the New Zealand Police Department allows its citizens to help write legislation. The first law that Kiwis will be permitted to craft is the nation's new police act, which was first enacted in 1958. The wiki site is similar to a whiteboard which is open to anyone who want to post their views, Superintendent Hamish McCardle, office in charge of the review, told the BBC. "Launching a wiki version of a statute is a novel move, but one we hope will yield a range of views from people interested in having a direct say on the shape of a new Policing Act," McCardle said.

Eleven-Year-Old Helps Police Recover $30,000 From A Robber

An 11-year-old Texas boy successfully led police to the arrest of a man suspected of large-scale theft. The little detective, identified only as Simeon, was waiting with younger siblings in the parking lot of a Dollar Tree store in Universal City when the incident tool place. The San Antonio Express-News reported that Simeon spotted a man getting into and out of a pickup, while smashing a window on a Nissan Xterra and stealing items from the car.

Inmates Used Toothpaste And Pancake Batter To Cover Up Prison Hole

The prisoners at the Scott City Jail in Missouri invented a new method to cover up a hole in a prison cell when they used pancake batter and toothpaste. The inmates reportedly used this new method to cover a hole they made to allow a female inmate to slide into the next cell and join a male inmate. They first removed a block from the wall, after making a digging tool with a nail. They also used a wire from a light fixture and a toothbrush as their other tools.
