The city of Toronto logged 2008 as its wettest summer in seven decades.
On midnight Saturday, the city's rainfall for June 1 to Aug 9 had amounted to 1.16 feet (354.2 millimeters) and broken the previous record of 1.10 feet (335.9 mm) set in 1986 during two months.
Summer still has several weeks to go, and there's no stopping more rainfall, David Phillips, senior climatologist of Environment Canada, predicts until Aug. 31 each day it rains in Toronto the city will break a record.
Residents are starting to complain about the very soggy summer.
"People are feeling it doesn't matter if they save money on air conditioning or that they're healthier because there's no smog. It's just too wet and stormy," Phillips explained to the Toronto Star.
The climatologist added it is also the wettest January to August recorded at Pearson International Airport in 70 years with 2.31 feet (705 mm) of precipitation. The previous record in 1945 was 2.20 feet (670.3 mm).
On Saturday the temperature even dropped to 16 degrees Celsius.
In contrast, 2007 was a very dry year.
