An appeals court has upheld the aggravated assault conviction of a 610-pound man who says the victim's injuries were at least partly the result of his weight, rather than an intent to cause harm. Patrick Macias of Post Falls was convicted in 2004 after Wendell Holder Jr. testified that he was drinking a long-neck bottle of beer when Macias tapped on his shoulder.

Japanese subway signs have employed Sesame Street characters to ask riders not to take up too much space, but rather, fold their newspapers when riding the trains. The island nation, known for its efficient yet compact, underground rail system is looking to create even more space for riders.

Police are shocked that a man was not killed after his car was crushed, twisted and dragged by a train. Porter County Sheriff's Department officers say "it was a miracle" Kenneth Liptak Jr. , not only survived the crash, but also managed to crawl out of the mangled metal and walk around Saturday morning, The Associated Press reports.
