New York transit police continues to arrest a transgender person for using the women's restroom at Grand Central Terminal.
Helena Stone, 70 is in transition from male to female. She accuses an officer of calling her "a freak, a weirdo, and the ugliest woman in the world."
Stone alleges the officer cautioned her, "If I ever see you in the women's bathroom, I'm going to arrest you."
The Associated Press reports, Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Tom Kelly says an investigation into the arrest has been launched, and that charges against Stone have been dropped.
Kelly says, "... We will take whatever steps are necessary to avoid a similar situation in the future."
Michael Silverman of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund is representing Stone. He says he is not aware of the dropped charges, but is happy with the offer.
Stone has been in transition for about 10 years. She was repairing pay phones at the train station last year when she was allegedly harassed by officers. She was arrested for disorderly conduct on Sept. 29, Dec. 17 and on Jan. 12 when she tried to used the women's restrooms.
