A reality show is being scrutinized for its plans to have a contestant give birth on live television. The popular Big Brother show, which is broadcasted across the world in several different countries, is planning to broadcast a new series in which one contestant will be due to give birth in six weeks. A social affairs and labor ministry spokeswoman said inspectors were examining a request for the newborn baby to appear on the show.

A new Dutch program tests the limits of reality television by following a woman searching for a potential sperm donor in order to conceive a child. Billionaire television producer John de Mol, behind the pioneer show Big Brother, launched the show earlier this month on his new TV station Talpa.

The authoritarian president of Turkmenistan has ordered a ban on lip synching performances across the tightly controlled Central Asian nation, citing "a negative effect on the development of singing and musical art," his office says Tuesday. President Saparmurat has outlawed opera and ballet and railed against long hair and gold teeth in the past, reports The Associated Press.
