A day after Edna Parker of Shelbyville, Indiana, celebrated her 114th birthday she was named the "Oldest Living Woman in the U.S." The event was attended by her fellow Hoosier, 113-year-old Bertha Fry, whose presence at the occasion itself established a world record for "Oldest Combined Age of Two People Meeting at 227 Years Old."
The event at the Heritage House in Shelbyville was also attended by Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels along with a number of family and friends.
Edna, born April 20, 1893, turned 114 on Friday becoming the oldest living person in the United States, the record earlier held by Emma Faust Tillman of Connecticut, who died in January this year. She was 114 years, two months and five days old.
While Fry, born December 1, 1893, hold the record for world's fifth oldest woman.
The two women had never met earlier.
Officials from Guinness World Records were also present to document the occasion for the upcoming release of the Guinness World Records 2008 edition.
