Two surfers were simultaneously bitten by sharks over the weekend in an area not far from where a father and son later that day survived more than 13 hours floating in the water until rescued - without being bitten.

The shark bite victims were both sitting on surf boards in the water about 200 feet apart and were bitten on the foot in two separate incidents about a second apart, according to reports.

Both victims were from Florida. The received minor injuries that were treated at the scene.

The 15-year-old male from Casselberry and a 43-year-old man from Ponce Inlet became the 20th and 21st shark bites in Volusia County this year.

That puts Volusia County one bite away from the record of 22 set in 2001. During that summer, Volusia County was labeled the "shark bite capital of the world."

Along with being one bite away from a yearly record, the two bites in one day was one bite away from the record three bites in one day, also recorded in 2001, according to reports.

AHN reported earlier Monday on the two swimmers, a father and his autistic son, who were swept out to sea by ocean currents later Saturday. They floated and treaded water for over 13 hours until the U.S. Coast Guard found them on Sunday. The pair were not bitten by sharks, although they were found only eight miles from where the two surfers were bitten Saturday.
