Authorities decided to drop a case filed against a 12-year old boy accused of assaulting an old man with a sausage.

A "notice of discontinuation" was issued regarding the case that called for the boy to be brought to court for the incident. The investigations have reportedly cost a total of Ł20,000 ($8,000).

Judge Paul Richardson, who dismissed the case a month ago, said that pursuing the case would be a waste of time and money, reported the UPI.

"There is a great difference between what is unacceptable and what should bring a 12-year old boy to court," said Richardson.

The boy's mother was also livid, saying "It was absolutely ludicrous to bring him before the court for that. My boy is in bits."

She continued, "Every night before he had to go to court he couldn't sleep. He was thinking somebody was going to come and take him off to prison."

The case was also questioned by a judge who received information about it last August. He questioned the validity of the case, as well as its significance to public interest.

"If he has done what was suggested it is very bad behavior. But is it in the public interest to prosecute a 12-year old who threw a sausage?"

Telegraph recounted that the boy was arrested last August for throwing a two-inch sausage at 74-year old Michael Deegan.

Deegan mistook the sausage for a stone, and reported the incident to the police.
