Dan Harris, UK Rubik's Speedcubing Champion, is a strong contender for the Rubik's Cube World Championship this Sunday, which marks the 25th Anniversary of the birth of the Rubik's Cube, brainchild of Hungarian designer and architect, Professor Erno Rubik.
The second official Rubik's World Championship will be held at the Walt Disney Pop Century Resort in Florida on Sunday, November 6.
There's never been a puzzle quite like the 300-million-selling Rubik's Cube - and 200 finger-twisting competitors, from 24 countries, have qualified to take part in the competition: they come from as far as Ghana, Israel, Taiwan, Japan and China - and most European countries, Canada and the US, home of the reigning World Champion, Dan Knights.
Knights, who holds the current record for the 3x3, or "standard," is the Speed cubing champion, securing the world title in an average winning time of 20 seconds, two years ago.
Britain's major hope for winning the showcase 3x3 Speed solving event is 20 year-old Meteorology and Oceanography student, Dan Harris, the current UK record holder, with a fastest official competition time of 14.61 seconds.
Harris was the highest-placed British competitor in the 2003 World Championship in Toronto.
"Recently, I've really closed the gap on the quickest guys, and have now got a good chance of winning the World title - and certainly of being the fastest Speedcuber in Europe," says Harris.
