Students from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee have voted to keep their school's name as it is, despite an effort to remove the hyphen.
Students defeated a referendum on changing the hyphenated name, after claims it made the school seem second to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which is often referred to as the University of Wisconsin by national sports media.
The majority of students voted to keep the name, while Wisconsin State University, Milwaukee State University and Milwaukee University all received votes.
Furthermore, according to the student government's Independent Election Commission, ten students wrote in votes to call the school, Jedi Academy, as homage to the popular Star Wars movies.
