Hundreds of fans and flight enthusiasts here at AirVenture 2008 were wowed on Tuesday as a New Zealand family debuted the Martin Jetpack, dubbed the "ultimate personal flying machine. "Inventor Glenn Martin said the device, which can fly a 280-pound passenger for 30 minutes, is "the world's first practical jetpack. " After spending 27 years developing the jetpack, the 48-year-old Glenn has involved his wife Vanessa and his two sons. Harrison, 16, test-flew the jetpack Tuesday at the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) AirVenture 2008.

People who have fat friends are more likely to put on some unwanted pounds as compared to people who have leaner friends, new research suggests. Calling it "imitative obesity," an international team including University of Warwick experts suggest fat friends can cause someone to put on weight too. Researchers analyzed data on 27,000 people from across Europe and found that obesity is more of a sociological phenomenon than a physiological one, as people are subconsciously influenced by the weight of people around them.

A retired American astronaut said he is sure there is alien life in the universe and that governments have covered up their knowledge about it for decades. Edgar Mitchell, who holds the record for the longest time spent on the moon, more than nine hours, made the statement during an interview on British radio.

One of the oldest Bibles will be available on the Internet, starting Thursday, a German university said Tuesday. Written on calfskin and discovered by a German researcher nearly 200 years ago, the half-finished text will become available for online readers, the University of Leipzig Library said. The University of Leipzig Library director said the half complete Bible was discovered in a waste basket by a German scholar. Liepzig University Library Director Ulrich Johannes Schneider said readers would be able to study the manuscript which has great importance to Christians.

A Tennessee woman is charged with trying to kill her four-month-old baby with overdoses of sodium by administering a salt solution into his feeding tube while the infant was hospitalized. Amber Brewington, 21, was arrested at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Wednesday morning after a hospital staff member alerted authorities that they had seen Brewington tampering with the baby's feeding tube late Tuesday evening.
