The Port St. Lucie couple, one of them in hospital recovering from gunshot wound to head and another in jail on a gun charge, have come up with a new story; if April and Michael Moylan are to be believed, the former shot the latter accidentally after being startled by their burglar alarm.

The couple claims the incident happened after April grabbed the fully loaded gun that she keeps under her pillow and it accidentally went off.

The pair had earlier told police that Michael, 45, woke up with a severe headache Monday night and asked his wife to drive him to a hospital, and that it was only when doctors informed him he came to know about the bullet lodged behind his right ear.

Moylans said that they made up the headache story because both are convicted felons and are not allowed to own a gun, Sheriff Ken Mascara told the AP.

According to police records, both husband and wife have made several trips to jail on charges including drug abuse, domestic battery, drunken driving and probation violations. The state attorney's office is reviewing the case and additional charges could be lodged against April.
