They may be less at pocket, but U.S. cabbies are no less when it comes to honesty. A Washington taxi driver returned a lost wallet, stuffed with nearly $6,000, to its owner after it presumably slipped from his hand while rushing to the airport. The incident comes just two days after a New York City taxi driver returned a bag carrying 31 diamond rings to the passenger who had mistakenly forgot it in his cab.
Vinod Mago, 55, told the AP that he never even thought of keeping the money. He said, "If you're an honest person, you will always have money in your pocket."
Mago had just started his morning shift, when Stanley Lal, an airport taxi coordinator, called to say that a man named Peter was looking for his lost wallet.
Mago instantly pulled his taxi over and found the wallet in the backseat near the right-side passenger door.
He drove all the way to airport and returned the wallet to its owner, who offered him a $100 reward, which he accepted to take his family out for dinner.
Mago says: "If money doesn't belong to me, I don't keep it. I know God is watching everybody, every second."
