SWAT team members kicked down the door of the wrong home, and were reportedly shot at by the surprised homeowner. The man was apparently frightened by the unexpected arrival of the officers, and grabbed the gun for defense. The SWAT's arrival at the wrong house was apparently due to bad information given to police, who were carrying out a search warrant. Two officers were hit by the shots, but their bullet-proof gear saved them from injury.

A customer of Rutland Burger King is suing the owner of the food chain after biting into a Southwestern Whopper that he claimed contained a condom. Van Miguel Hartless immediately complained to the manager but he "laughed off the incident," Hartless said.

A man's life was spared during a store robbery as a bullet fired by the robber was deflected by his wedding ring. Donnie Register, was held at gunpoint by one of the two men robbing his store The Antique Market, said Sgt. Jeffery Scott. The robbers started by walking into the store asking to see a coin collection. As Register retrieved the collection, one of the men then pulled out a gun, pointed it at Register, and demanded money.

A number of BlackBerry and cell phone owners are reporting something similar - they imagine their device is vibrating as if there's a call, but there's no phone. In interviews, the AP talked with a number of owners of the popular mobile e-mail gadget about phantom technology. In once case, a public relations manager felt his BlackBerry vibrating against his leg, automatically reached for it, and found no device.
