A Valentine's Day art auction organized by U2 frontman and social campaigner Bono has raised more than $40 million for the United Nations-backed Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Africa.

The auction in New York sold modern works from Damien Hirst, Georg Baselitz, Howard Hodgkin, Jasper Johns, Anish Kapoor and Jeff Koons.

The auction is part of the RED campaign of Bono and Bobby Shriver. The campaign involves the creation of a product with the Product Red logo by participating donor companies. A percentage of the sales of the product is given to the Global Fund to be used in helping HIV/AIDS victims in Africa.

Since its creation in 2002, the Global Fund has contributed more than $10 billion to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria through 550 programs in 136 countries.
