Vandals have destroyed an estimated $10,000 in sod, and possibly the livelihood of a family-owned business that has been farming since 1868.
David Motz, owner of Motz Turf Farms, near Newtown in Ohio, says, an acre and a half of recently seeded grass, which is sold to developers and landscapers, was vandalized.
Motz believes, "They were trying to do serious damage. It wasn't like they pulled off the road and got stuck - I've heard that before. This was about the worst case of vandalism I've had."
The family owns about 250 acres, yet they don't carry insurance on the crop.
Motz explains, "We've got five full-time employees that count on a yearly crop. This affects the outcome of everyone's livelihood. We've got employees that have been here 10 years and more, and they understand the loss - and they're just as disgusted as I am."
