Fire officials in Victoria state say Frank Clewer had built up at least 30,000 volts of static electricity in his jacket simply by walking around the city of Warrnambool. He received his first shock when he walked into a local business. Clewer says, "It sounded almost like a firecracker or something like that. "

An almost 40-year mystery is solved Friday when authorities rule that an Australian prime minister who disappeared Dec. 17, 1967 had drowned and was not assassinated or taken by a Chinese submarine. Harold Holt disappeared while swimming in the ocean in the southern state of Victoria after serving almost two years as prime minister.

An elderly Australian couple take police on a 1,400 mile chase in protest after the wife was denied an extension of her driving license because of old age. Tom and Marian Foulkes, both in their 80s, drove from their Melbourne home in the southern state of Victoria to the north of New South Wales state and halfway back again, avoiding police searching for them.
