There have been claims by many villagers in the remote north eastern Indian village about spotting "bigfoot"-type hairy giants, who are huge and are roaming in the jungles.

Prompted by numerous such claims, the authorities in the area have ordered an investigation into the sightings in the Garo hills area of Meghalaya state, close to the borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan.

According to AFP reports, the villagers are calling the mysterious creatures "Mande Burung" or Jungle Man, who are said to have long hair on the body and big feet.

The talks about spotting these creatures date back to many years but the sightings have increased in the past month, prompting authorities to investigate the matter. One such claim is made by Wallen Sangma and the entire family of this local farmer.

"The sight was frightening: two adults and two smaller ones, huge and bulky, furry," the 40-year-old told adding their heads looked as if they were wearing blackish-brown. He also added that they saw four "monsters" were about 100 to 130 feet away from him and then vanished into the undergrowth.

The Achik Tourism society, one Garo Hills group who is trying to verify the creature's existence for the past 10 years claims to have hair samples of the creature taken from the forest. They now plan to send them for DNA testing.
